Specialist Behaviour Support

My Disability Practitioners is an NDIS Registered Provider of Specialist Behaviour Support under Capacity Building – Improved Relationships. Our Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioners are tertiary‑qualified and experienced in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). PBS is one of the most well‑researched and effective approaches for reducing behaviours of concern and building meaningful skills across the lifespan.

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and supporting people to build the skills they need, so they no longer rely on behaviours of concern to communicate needs or manage emotions.

Rather than simply managing behaviour, PBS aims to:

• Increase independence and quality of life

• Improve communication and emotional regulation

• Strengthen relationships and participation

• Reduce the need for restrictive practices over time

How Behaviour Support Works

Behaviour Support differs from therapy because it focuses on the whole support system, not just one‑to‑one sessions.

Our practitioners work collaboratively with:

• Participants

• Families

• Support workers

• Providers and services

We assess the function of behaviours and develop clear, practical Behaviour Support Plans that guide everyone involved in the person’s life to respond consistently and safely.

Restrictive Practices

Where restrictive practices are required to ensure safety, our accredited practitioners:

• Undertake required assessments

• Develop compliant Behaviour Support Plans

• Provide documentation and reporting aligned with NDIS and NSW regulatory requirements

Our team has extensive experience supporting participants with complex needs while working toward reducing reliance on restrictive practices wherever possible.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Supervision

My Disability Practitioners provide fee‑for‑service clinical supervision for Behaviour Support Practitioners using the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Capability Framework as the foundation for safe, ethical and evidence‑based practice. The Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework sets out the minimum knowledge, skills, professional behaviours and safeguards required of practitioners delivering behaviour support under the NDIS. Our supervision model supports practitioners to meet NDIS suitability requirements, work within scope, and progressively develop capability across all domains of PBS practice.

All supervision is delivered by Senior Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioners with extensive experience in NDIS Specialist Behaviour Support and PBS Capability Framework oversight.

Our framework aligned model of supervision is mapped to the seven capability domains of the PBS Capability Framework. Supervision sessions are structured to ensure that practitioners can demonstrate, reflect on and strengthen their capability in each domain.

We supervise practitioners to:

  • Understand their current scope of competency (Core, Proficient, Advanced or Specialist)
  • Develop priorities within the PBS Capability Framework to build capability

We provide guidance in:

  • Functional Behavioural Assessment methodology
  • Translating assessment data into effective Behaviour Support Plans
  • Aligning strategies with function, quality of life and skill development
  • Developing compliant plans where restrictive practices are involved

Our fee for service supervision can assist practitioners who:

  • Are seeking NDIS practitioner suitability
  • Are needing external supervision to maintain suitability
  • Are progressing their capability under the PBS Framework
  • Are needing supervision specifically aligned with NDIS expectations
